The Making of Clash Of The Twang’s First Album – Hold Me To The Sky

Clash Of The Twang

In the Summer of 2021 I happened to see Clash Of The Twang play an incredible set to the crowd at a wedding in their native North Wales. I thought they were absolutely fantastic. There were loads of great songs, funny and thoughtful lyrics, and grooves that got everyone dancing. I relished the thought of making an album with them.

Recording – Making the album

Fast forward nearly a year, and I finally got the call from lead vocalist Andrew to start making plans to do so. I prepped the band with many ideas of song structure edits for them to consider. A few weeks later I headed to their rehearsal room for an evening to run through the ideas. And the next day we set up at Penhesgyn Hall and spent a week recording the album.

Mixing and Mastering

I then took all the stuff home, and Griff the keyboard player sent me MIDI parts. Quite a few were organs, so I made good use of my old Leslie speaker. Then I got it all mixed and mastered. And I reckon we’ve made a stunning debut album…! Listen and download from Bandcamp:

Nick the bass player said: “I just wanted to express my appreciation for everything you’ve done to help the band and to create this amazing album. It was exactly the right personal approach and the right creative input we needed, thank you so much.
