Mastering Calum MacColl’s beautiful rendition of Colin Vearncombe aka Black’s “In A Heartbeat”

Colin Vearncombe aka Black

The late Colin Vearncombe was an incredible musician and songwriter. He had a huge hit in the 80s as Black, “Wonderful Life” which you might remember…

Calum MacColl

Son of legendary folk singers Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger, and half-brother of the late Kirsty MacColl, Calum is an amazing producer, songwriter and musician. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with him on a number of projects, mostly in a mastering capacity. I also had the enormous pleasure of recording his vocals and guitars for the forthcoming Aliens album. More about that on here soon.

A long-time collaborator and right-hand man of Colin’s, Calum enlisted my help for the last Black album release during Colin’s lifetime. This was a live album featuring the pair of them performing from 2015. Now as part of the “Love, Colin” tribute project, Calum has recorded this gorgeous new rendition of Colin’s song “In A Heartbeat”. He kindly sent it over for me to master, and it was recently uploaded to YouTube…

Calum said…

“You got this so right, thank you so very much. Dead right. Dunno how you do this mastering lark – you should do it for a living etc… Really good.”
