O Holy Night
Towards the end of 2023 I unexpectedly received a request from Brian and Jon to mix – and master – their beautiful Christmas song featuring a lovely vocal performance by Brian. It also includes the wondrous sound of the Welsh male voice choir Côr Meibion Gwalia. Here it is:
The Only Way Is Up!
When Stornoway came to record at my studio, they spotted my gold disc for The Only Way Is Up by Yazz (I engineered this number one record!) And then they had the idea to record their own version, so we did! Hear it in the above TV commercial.

I collaborated with Stornoway on most of their releases since their first album, there’s a great old Sound On Sound piece about their second album for which I was interviewed. Their later album Bonxie was recorded at Bank Cottage with a few tracks initially produced by Gil Norton with me engineering, but I then recorded the rest and mixed it all on my own, bouncing mixes backwards and forwards to the band for comments. Get Low was a great single and I was asked by the band to oversee the sound when they performed a shortened version live on the BBC Andrew Marr Show. Jon was inconsolable after forgetting the ‘edit’ and launching into the wrong bit of backing vocals at one point, see if you can spot it https://youtu.be/gNoqsY26ZmE Following the album release the band returned to my studio to record acoustic versions of the songs, and a superb cover version of The Only Way Is Up
